Barcelona captain Lionel Messi delivered an exhilarating performance against Getafe as a compilation highlighted why he is the ‘most in-form player in 2021.’

With a thunderous shot from the edge of the area in the first five minutes at the Camp Nou, the 33-year-old Argentine powerhouse came close to winning.

Messi’s shot, however, smashed off the bar and rolled off the line, denying him an impressive opener.

However, Messi would score only minutes later after Sergio Busquets picked him out with an inch-perfect throw.

Getafe pulled a goal back after Clement Lenglet put the ball into his own net, but Barcelona would reclaim their lead before halftime.

Sofian Chakla’s nightmare came to an end when he managed to poke the ball past David Soria after the Getafe goalkeeper charged off his post.

After his initial shot was tipped into the inside of the post, Messi took Barcelona up 3-1 minutes later by beating Soria from an incredibly close angle at his near post.

With his brace, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner increased his goal total to 23 in 2021, while also adding eight assists.
Messi may have scored a hat-trick against Getafe, but he chose to let Antoine Griezmann take the penalty for Barcelona in injury time.
Fans flocked to social media to laud Messi as the best player in the world ‘by a long shot,’ in addition to the compilation to showcase his incredible results.

Enes Unal scored from the spot-kick for Getafe in the second half, but Ronald Araujo and Griezmann both added their names to the scoresheet to seal Barcelona’s 5-2 win at the Camp Nou.

Barcelona’s victory over Getafe moves them to third place in La Liga ahead of Sevilla.

The Spanish side are five points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid and two points behind fierce rivals Real Madrid.

Ronald Koeman’s men will return to La Liga action on Sunday as they travel to El Madrigal for their clash with Villarreal.
