Fortunately for Drogba and co., Pierre Wome missed from close range, allowing Ivory Coast to qualify for the first time; they qualified for the World Cup.

It was an attempt to get the country back together, as he was from the south. It was a massive success at the time, with a 5-0 win capped by Drogba’s final goal, which sparked nationwide celebrations.
With Drogba as its spokesperson and leader, the Ivory Coast national team had brought peace to the country – even if it was not to last. After controversial elections five years later, conflict erupted again, and Laurent Gbagbo, the then-president, was just this week convicted of war crimes at The Hague.

An outstanding woman stands behind a great man. Unlike some footballers who seek shallow women, Drogba has chosen a modest, quiet African woman with a strong heart. Lalla Diakite is a deserving Malian woman who deserves to be honoured. Drogba was able to become the wonderful man he is today thanks to her loyalty, discretion, and affection for her husband and children.
Didier Drogba and his wife are parents to three children.
