Graeme Souness’ Damning Analysis Of England Struggling To A Draw vs Scotland Is Essential Viewing

Graeme Souness unloaded on England following their 0-0 draw with Scotland on Friday night and told his fellow ITV pundits that football “ain’t coming home”.

Many hoped the Three Lions would kick on after an impressive showing against Croatia in their first Group D game.

But Scotland looked the better side for large parts of the game and both sides shared the points at Wembley.

Souness spoke at length following the game and mentioned Harry Kane’s lack of impact on this England side.

He said: “He’s [Kane] your one player. He’s your one player who’s proven at this level to get goals on a regular basis. If that’s not happening in this competition, then you’re not going very far.”

Former Liverpool manager Souness then delivered the ultimate zinger – with reference to the hit ‘Three Lions’ song.

“You go back to the World Cup in Russia, his goals got you where you got to. Harry Kane not performing, I think it’s a major problem for you. Football ain’t coming home with that team, I can tell you. Not the way they’re playing.”

Ian Wright was left in shock at England’s performance as well as Gareth Southgate’s in-game substitutions.

Southgate opted to leave two defensive midfielders on the pitch while also bringing off Phil Foden and Harry Kane.

Jadon Sancho is yet to make an appearance at the competition despite a fantastic domestic season with Borussia Dortmund.

Wright fumed: “There’s no way Foden should be leaving the pitch. You’ve got Sancho on the bench – 15 goals and 20 assists a season – and he doesn’t even get on. We need to create. I’m embarrassed for us.”

England are now second in Group D on four points, level with the Czech Republic.

Those two will face off on Tuesday evening, as will Scotland and Croatia.
