However, after Switzerland impressively reached the quarter-finals in Euro 2020, their coach Vladimir Petkovic has since left his role to manage Ligue 1 club Bordeaux.
The Swiss Football Association have been looking for an experienced manager who can quickly adapt to the role and guide the country through the World Cup qualifiers to reach the tournament in Qatar which is less than 18 months away.
Wenger has been previously linked with the job whilst he was manager of Nagoya Grampus, however he decided to not break his contract with the Japanese club.

Wenger, on the other hand, joined Arsenal in 1996 and won three Premier League titles, seven FA Cups, and was instrumental in the club’s relocation to the Emirates Stadium.
Wenger has been connected with roles like as Bayern Munich since leaving North London, but he has opted to stay away from management.
Wenger is known for being one of the finest managers in recent history and his multilingual skills would be especially beneficial for the role because the team is made up of German, French, and Italian speakers.

Fans have taken to social media to react the news as many are excited for his return to coaching, one fan on Twitter said: “Highly excited for watching Arsene Wenger coach Switzerland in the world cup!”
Despite rumours that the Swiss FA has yet to make a formal approach for the former Arsenal manager, Switzerland would prefer to have a coach in place before their World Cup qualifiers begin in September against Euro 2020 champions Italy.
