England Players Slammed By Fans For Taking Off Runners-Up Medals After Euro 2020 Final Defeat To Italy

England players have been blasted by fans on social media for immediately removing their runners-up medals after Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph.

The Three Lions’ long wait for major silverware was dashed on Sunday as Roberto Mancini’s in-form Italy side mounted a successful comeback at Wembley.

England star Luke Shaw stunned Italy in the opening two minutes after firing Gareth Southgate’s men into the lead.

However, Leonardo Bonucci cancelled out the England left-back’s opener in the second half to send the Euro 2020 final to extra time.

Neither England nor Italy broke the deadlock in extra time, with a nail-biting penalty shootout deciding the winner of this summer’s Euros.

Domenico Berardi, Bonucci and Federico Bernardeschi all beat Jordan Pickford from the spot-kick.

However, both Andrea Belotti and Jorginho’s penalties were saved by the England No 1.

Both Harry Kane and Harry Maguire scored their respective penalties for England, but Marcus Rashford missed his spot-kick and Gianluigi Donnarumma denied Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka.

Ben Chilwell, Phil Foden, Reece James, Jude Bellingham and Conor Coady were among the players who were spotted taking their runners-up medals off.

The disrespect the England players show by taking those medals off.

Meanwhile, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was one of the England players who didn’t take his Euro 2020 silver medal off before leaving the stage.

The England players’ decision to remove their medals have been blasted by some fans, who called it a sign of “poor sportsmanship” and “something they should be proud of.”

Why did England put their medals off straight away? It’s silver, vice-champions, it’s something they should be proud of

Taking the medals off is EXACTLY why the rest of the UK don’t support England.

Genuine question, is there a reason why the England players are taking their medals off, right after getting them? pic.twitter.com/fdAykw5w1M

I wish the England team wouldn’t take their medals off 🙁. It’s still a huge achievement.

England showing a real lack of respect by removing their silver medals as soon as they’re given. Poor sportsmanship no matter how disappointed they must be.

One fan posted: “What’s with the England players ripping their medals off?”

While another angrily tweeted: “So the majority of the England players are now quickly taking off their runners-up medals like spoilt children. Pathetic!”

Someone else wrote: “All of these players taking off their medals FFS, most of them have won f**k all. And they’re the first England team to win a medal in 55 years. Lack of class.”

And a fourth Twitter user said: “What is it with the [England] players removing their runners-up medals!? How disrespectful! Be an example to youngsters and show some humility!”
