Maurizio Sarri Explains Why Managing Cristiano Ronaldo Was Very Difficult

Maurizio Sarri has detailed why managing Cristiano Ronaldo was far from simple.

Sarri took over from Massimiliano Allegri as Juventus boss in the summer of 2019, despite winning the Serie A title, he was relieved of his duties as boss following Juventus’ disappointing exit from the Champions League in the round of 16 against Lyon.

Ronaldo finished off the campaign with 30 Serie A goals – his highest in a single season in Italy. Sarri assured managing Ronaldo is not easy, despite his incredible output.

Sarri told Sport Italia: “Ronaldo’s management is not simple, from all points of view. He is a multinational company; he has personal interests that must coincide with football.

“His interests go beyond what is normal, beyond the team or club. I am a coach, not a manager. Ronaldo, however, brings the numbers at the end of the year”.

“He represents something that goes beyond the club, with more than 200 million followers on social media, but this is a problem in our society. Unfortunately, there is too much talk about players and little about teams.” https://t.co/DWmCl6iZGC #RTEsoccer

Sarri went on to say that Jorginho, whom he managed at Napoli and Chelsea is finally being appreciated and should be considered for the Ballon d’Or should he win Euro 2020 with Italy.
