Manchester United Set To Benefit If Chelsea Get Romelu Lukaku For £100 Million

Romelu Lukaku’s potential move to Chelsea will earn Manchester United an unexpected bonus in the transfer window.

Chelsea are desperate to add a striker to their squad this summer and are clearly ready to spend big money in order to get the right man.

They tried hard to persuade Borussia Dortmund to sell Erling Haaland a year before his transfer release clause kicks in, but the Bundesliga side wanted around £170 million for the Norwegian.

With rivals Manchester City more likely to sign Harry Kane, the Blues have decided that Lukaku is now their number one choice.

The English side have reportedly already offered £85.4 million plus Marcos Alonso for the striker, but Inter Milan are looking for closer to £100 million, with the striker interested in the move.

If the European champions do eventually cough up what Inter want then it’ll actually land United a windfall of £5 million.

The 28-year-old played at Old Trafford for two seasons, from 2017-2019, scoring 42 goals in 96 appearances before moving to Italy.

According to the Telegraph, United agreed a 5% sell on clause with the Serie A champions and so will be hoping that the Nerazzurri get as much as humanly possible out of the Belgian’s sale

£5 million isn’t much in the transfer market but it will still come as a boost to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as he continues his own assault on the Premier League title.

United have added Jadon Sancho to their team this summer and are expected to also confirm the signing of Raphael Varane in the next week.

However the manager now has to rely on sales in order to sign anyone else, and he continues to target a defensive midfielder and a right back.

Making up some of that money without having to do any of the work would certainly help Solskjaer.

On the other hand, Chelsea are unlikely to be perturbed by giving United and money, as they are so in need of a striker.

Timo Werner scored just six league goals after joining last summer and a striker of Lukaku’s ability gives them a chance of competing with Manchester City.
