Mikel Arteta Has Five Games To Save His Job As Antonio Conte Is Lined Up As His Replacement

Antonio Conte is reportedly being targeted as Mikel Arteta’s potential replacement if he is sacked, according to The Telegraph.

After Chelsea’s 2-0 victory at the Emirates stadium on Sunday, there is increasing pressure over Arteta’s job as it marked the worst start to a league season in the club’s history.

The Telegraph have reported that the Arsenal boss will be given until October to prove his capabilities within the job.

After Conte’s departure from Inter Milan this summer, he has been linked with various jobs and earlier this summer he was in advanced talks with Tottenham Hotspur however there were reportedly many reasons why he did not accept the offer.

When Conte was speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, he reiterated that he is waiting for the right project before reentering the world of management: “I look for the projects instead and I am ready to stay at home if something is not convincing me.

“It has to do with vision, honesty and principles. Generally, I like challenges and I’ve accepted many of them during my career.

“Even the top clubs I coached were never the favourites when I arrived.

“However, if there’s something that doesn’t convince me I prefer not to accept, regardless of the money.”

The former Chelsea manager has also added that his next job would most likely be outside of Italy: “I would like to have more experiences abroad. I think that I am not someone who is happy with just a comfortable situation. I always chose the most difficult situation instead.

“As a player, I won everything it was possible to win, but I also lost a great deal.

“When you lose, it leaves within you the desire not to experience that again, so you do everything to transmit that to your players when you are a head coach. It all comes from your scars and wanting to avoid getting more.”
