RB Leipzig’s Nodi Mukelele scored a hilarious own goal vs Man City

Manchester City were helped in their Champions League opener against RB Leipzig by one of the visitor’s defenders, after a perfect Kevin de Bruyne cross.
City were runners up last season, losing to Chelsea in the final in May, and are desperate to finally get their hands on the one trophy that’s so far eluded to them.
On Tuesday they opened their campaign at home to Leipzig, who reached the semi final of the 2019/20 competition, and it didn’t take them long to make their mark.
Nathan Ake scored after 16 minutes, for his first goal in the competition, and gave Jack Grealish his first assist in European competition on his debut in it.
Just 12 minutes later the £100 million man was actually denied a goal, when Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele stole a chance from him, and headed De Bruyne’s brilliant pass into his own net, it was an excellent finish in fairness!
That Kevin De Bruyne cross was so beautiful Mukiele just felt compelled to finish it… 😬

Other than really wanting to stop Grealish getting a goal, it’s actually quite tough to work out what the 23-year-old was trying to do.
Mukiele would have been far better off just letting it hit his head straight on and go out for a corner, than contort himself and head past his own keeper.
Christopher Nkunku made it 2-1 with just three minutes of the half to go, and it looked like Pep Guardiola’s side would go in at the break with a one goal advantage.
However, Leipzig were once again the makers of their own downfall as Lukas Klostermann blocked Ferran Torres’ header with his arm and Riyad Mahrez made it 3-1 from the penalty spot, in injury time.
