Are you a real football fan if you’ve never expressed frustration at a player for missing a chance?

“Even I could have scored that,” you’re likely to say out loud in complete disbelief.

Of course, we make this claims safe in the knowledge that we’ll never actually be in the position to be proven wrong.

That’s exactly what AS Roma fan Marco Nicolai did in 2019 – although he didn’t know there would be consequences.

Marco brazenly left a comment on a highlight reel of Cengiz Under on Roma’s Facebook page, saying he could have scored one of the goals.

Roma invited fan to recreate goal

Roma decided to put Marco to the test. They invited the supporter to the Stadio Olimpico to prove he could score Under’s goal, recreating the Turkish winger’s finish against Parma.

The results were brilliant.

Marco, in front of a number of fans at Roma’s stadium, was given three chances to recreate Under’s goal.

And things didn’t exactly go to plan for the lad.

Marco went 0 for 3

It turns out Marco couldn’t score the same goal as Under did against Parma.

The Roma fan slipped on his first attempt, scuffed his second and his third went narrowly wide of the goal.

Roma called Marco’s bluff – and it didn’t work out for him.

“You’ll never write that again?,” he was asked afterwards, replying: “I don’t think so, no.”

What’s happened to Under?

Under signed for Roma in 2017 and he impressed in his debut season, scoring eight goals in all competitions.

However, the Turkey international failed to establish himself in the first team and spent last season out on loan at Premier League outfit Leicester City.

In July 2021, the winger made another loan move, this time to Marseille, and he made an immediate impact, scoring four goals in his first five appearances for the Ligue 1 side.
