Tomas Muller was one of the scorers as Bayern Munich sent Barcelona out of the Champions League on Wednesday and then gave a damning assessment of Xavi’s team.

Bayern continued their recent history of embarrassing Barcelona in Europe with a 3-0 win at the Allianz Arena, sending the Spanish giants into the Europa League.

It’s the first time in 17 years that the Catalans have failed to make it into the last 16 of the Champions League, when they weren’t even in the competition, and it shines a light on just how far the team have fallen in recent years.

Muller was one of the scorers on Wednesday, along with Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala, and the Germany forward clearly wasn’t impressed with Bayern’s opponents.

Speaking after the match the 32-year-old gave his brutal opinion about Xavi’s team, and it doesn’t make for good reading for their fans.

“I think Barça can’t cope with the intensity, Muller told DAZN.

“Technically, they have it all, they are great players tactically and technically.

“But they can’t cope with the intensity in top football.”

Muller, and his Bayern teammates, have seen plenty of Barca in the past few years, starting with the 8-2 embarrassment in 2020, which left Lionel Messi wanting to quit the Nou Camp.

They have played them twice in this campaign too, beating them 3-0 on both occasions, and Bayern didn’t even face a shot on target in the first game.

There has also been big losses to other teams in the past few years and it was the 3-0 home defeat against Benfica that was the difference between them going through to the last 16 this season.

Another damning assessment of the team’s situation was delivered to Barca on El Chiringuito TV, in one of the most epic rants you’re likely to see.

One pundit questioned how the team could be linked with the likes of Erling Haaland and Ferran Torres and told the club to keep its feet on the ground.

He also showed his anger at Clement Lenglet, with the defender spotted sharing a laugh with Robert Lewandowski after the team had been eliminated from the Champions League.
