Senegal are 2022 Africa Cup of Nations champions after beating Egypt in the final on Sunday evening.

Senegal had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the game after just a few minutes.

Saliou Ciss burst into the box after a marauding run down the left-hand side.

He won a penalty for his side when he was sent to the turf by Mohamed Abdelmonem’s rash challenge.

Sadio Mane, one of the best players in the tournament, stepped up to give his side.

He powered his effort at goal but Egypt stopper Gabaski pulled off a wonderful save to ensure parity remained.

Both sides had chances for the remainder of the game but neither side could break the deadlock.

The two sides could not be separated and so, after it was still level after extra-time, the game went to penalties.

And Mane got redemption as he scored the winning penalty for Senegal.
