Barcelona has put a wrench in the works for Real Madrid and PSG by expressing interest in Kylian Mbappe, who is available for free this summer transfer season.
After getting a substantial financial boost from Spotify, Barcelona has devised its own plan to entice Kylian Mbappe away from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
When his contract with PSG expires at the end of the season, the France international is on the verge of departing for nothing. His next destination has been generally speculated to be Real Madrid.
Last year, Los Blancos attempted to recruit Mbappe, who has stated that he wishes to play at the Santiago Bernabeu. Bids of up to £145 million were made for the World Cup champion, but PSG turned them down.
It has led to a situation where the 23-year-old is now on the verge of leaving the Parc des Princes for nothing this summer. But it appears Barcelona have steamed in to try and snap Mbappe up under Real’s noses.
According to L’Equipe, Barcelona have made a move for Mbappe and feel that a deal will be cheaper to achieve than that of Erling Haaland – who is also in their sights. The Borussia Dortmund striker has a release clause of around £65m but the total outlay of his transfer could top £300m including wages and agent fees.

Last year, Barcelona struggled to spend money and had to let Lionel Messi go to cut expenditures. The Blaugrana, on the other hand, have lately been strengthened financially by a £58 million-per-year partnership with Spotify and a £500 million loan from Goldman Sachs.
It has given club president Joan Laporta confidence that the club can produce a proposal that Mbappe will be keen to listen to. And L’Equipe further report that the striker has not closed the door on a move to the Nou Camp.
