Cristiano Ronaldo’s success on the football field has been put to good use, to say the least.

In 2020, the Manchester United and Portugal star will become the first active team-sport athlete to earn more than $1 billion in their career.

That’s according to Forbes, who had the 37-year-old third in their list of the highest-paid athletes in 2021 after earning a cool $120m.

Ronaldo has a long-term contract with Nike, and his CR7-branded clothing, accessories, hotels, and gyms generate revenue for him.

Then there’s Instagram. According to The Guardian, Ronaldo can command as much as $1.6m per post to endorse a product on the social medial giant, more than anyone else in the world.

But no matter how much Ronaldo was paid to appear in a commercial for Shopee, a Singapore-based e-commerce platform, it wasn’t worth it.

The advertisement went viral at the time, and Shopee surely didn’t mind. As the saying goes, there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Shopee signed Ronaldo up as an ambassador and as part of the deal, he agreed to appear in an ad that involved a cringeworthy dance set to the tune of ‘Baby Shark’ about the company’s ’Super Shopping Day’.

Surely Ronaldo wondered what an earth he was doing?

The advert is doing the rounds on social media once again and it’s still making fans laugh.

“This gets more crazy to me every time I watch it,” one fan wrote.

Another said: “I’m sure the number of zeroes on the cheque made it worth the embarrassment!!”

Meanwhile, the sight of Ronaldo scoring a free-kick led many to joke that it was fake.

“Completely unrealistic, he scored the fk,” someone wrote.
