Liverpool have one foot in the Champions League final after beating Villarreal in their semi-final first leg tie at Anfield on Wednesday evening.

The Reds went into the game as the heavy favourites and they produced a dominant display.

Jurgen Klopp’s side won 2-0 thanks to two second half goals within two minutes.

Liverpool took the lead eight minutes after the break when Jordan Henderson’s cross deflected off Pervis Estupiñán and into the net.

They doubled their advantage two minutes later when Sadio Mane found a way past Gerónimo Rulli.

There were no further goals, meaning Liverpool go into the second leg next Tuesday with a commanding lead.

There was an altercation at the final whistle with Juan Foyth visibly annoyed about something.

Cameras showed the Argentine clashing with a number of Liverpool players and staff.

Jurgen Klopp and Trent Alexander-Arnold were involved, as was Henderson.

Henderson appeared to say something to Foyth and fans think he said: “Shut the f*** up.”

It all calmed down moments later as Adrian helped ease tensions.

PA Media sports reporter Carl Markham was at the game and posted footage of the incident.

Markham thinks that Luis Diaz was heavily involved in the altercation. The two had numerous battles on the pitch during the game.

Liverpool’s chances of winning a historic quadruple are still well and truly on.

They have already won the Carabao Cup final, are going toe-to-toe with Man City in the Premier League, are in the FA Cup final and have one foot in the Champions League final.

It’s been an incredible year for Liverpool. They will go down in history as one of the greatest sides ever should they manage to win the quadruple.
