Mohamed Salah’s incredible 2021/22 season has been recognised as he was named the Football Writers’ Association Men’s Footballer of the Year.

Salah has been tremendous for Liverpool in the Premier League this season.

He’s well ahead in the race for the Golden Boot having scored 22 goals, while he’s also added 14 assists.

Salah beat many Manchester City players to the award, including Kevin De Bruyne.

Pep Guardiola was asked about his thoughts on Salah winning the award in his press conference on Friday afternoon.

And he didn’t appear to be overly ecstatic about the news.

Guardiola congratulated Salah before saying it is normal that a Liverpool player won the award, because Jurgen Klopp thinks they have the world’s best player at every position.

He said: “Congratulations to Salah. Jurgen said, they have the best keeper, the second-best second keeper in the world, the best central defender, the best holding midfielder, the best striker, so it’s normal they win all the awards.”

Many Liverpool fans have been calling out Guardiola for his comments, with many interpreting it at sarcasm. View some reaction below…

Guardiola was also asked to give his opinion on Klopp’s decision to extend his Liverpool contract until 2026.

He said, per the Liverpool Echo: “Congratulations to Jurgen and Liverpool, it’s really good for the Premier League. I wish them all the best.

“Everyone has their situation and if we decide to stay longer, it’s because I decide not because my colleague Jurgen extended.”

Guardiola and Klopp’s sides are currently battling each other for the Premier League title.

City are currently one point clear of the Reds with five games to go.

They could still meet on the pitch one more time in 2021/22, should both make it through to the Champions League final.
