There were distressing scenes in the first half of the Premier League clash between West Ham United and Burnley at the London stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Play was stopped in the 22nd minute due to a serious injury to Ashley Westwood.
Westwood immediately called for medical attention after going into a challenge with Nikola Vlasic.
It’s believed that Westwood suffered a suspected broken leg.
Westwood was down for roughly 10 minutes before being stretchered off the pitch.
Vlasic, meanwhile, was absolutely distraught and had to be consoled by teammates.
We wish Westwood all the best and a speedy recovery.
Wout Weghorst gave the away side the lead just moments after play re-started.
A corner was swung in and Jay Rodriguez struck the bar. The ball looped in the air and Weghorst leaped highest to nod it home.
Burnley had a golden opportunity to double their lead just before half-time.
Lukasz Fabianski gave away a penalty after taking out Maxwel Cornet inside the box.
The Ivorian stepped up but he inexplicably sent his spot-kick wide.
Burnley went into the game in 18th and four points from safety. The match against West Ham is their first since sacking Sean Dyche, who was relieved of his duties after nine years in charge on Friday.
The Clarets desperately need three points in their battle to survive the drop.
