Rio Ferdinand had Joe Cole in stitches with reaction to Real Madrid’s goals vs Chelsea

Rio Ferdinand couldn’t contain his excitement after watching Luka Modric and Karim Benzema work their magic for Real Madrid against Chelsea in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Manchester United legend was covering the quarter-final second leg for BT Sport alongside fellow ex-England internationals Joe Cole and Steve McManaman.

Chelsea, who lost the first leg 3-1 at Stamford Bridge, were on the brink of completing a stunning comeback after taking a 3-0 lead at the Bernabeu by the 75th minute.

Goals from Mason Mount, Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner put Thomas Tuchel’s side 4-3 up on aggregate in the Spanish capital.

However, Modric’s contender for the greatest assist in Champions League history set up Rodrygo to score the goal that sent the tie to extra-time.

Like the vast majority of football fans around the world, Ferdinand couldn’t contain himself after watching Modric’s stunning outside-of-the-boot pass.

In fact, he got so excited that he called Luka Modric “Muka Modric”, much to Cole’s amusement.

The Premier League legend shouted: “Oh my god! Muka Modric!”

“Do not doubt the quality of this young man! What a ball with the outside of the right peg!”

Then, when Benzema headed home what would prove to be the winning goal for Real Madrid, Ferdinand exploded.

“Oh my god! Karim Benzema! Karim Benzema!” Rio screamed. “This is what he does! Woah! He ain’t touched the ball all night, it’s in the big of the net first touch!”

Nobody gets more excited on big Champions League nights. You love to see it.

Cole looked understandably gutted when Benzema scored. He spent seven years at Chelsea and, even though he loves West Ham, he’ll always have a big soft spot for the Blues.

But even he couldn’t help smiling as Rio bounced around next to him.

The guy just absolutely loves football and his passion for the game is infectious.
