Cristiano Ronaldo has come under unnecessary fire this season.

Of course, his return to Manchester United was met with massive expectation. The Old Trafford faithful’s most successful son was back and with him came the dream of a title challenge and the resurgence of the United of old.

But it wasn’t to be. And many fans have been unrelenting in their criticism of Ronaldo, choosing to point the finger at his lack of running to highlight his unsuitability to the squad.

The thing is, though, Ronaldo wasn’t brought back to United to ‘put in a shift.’ No, he was brought back for one thing and one thing only, to score goals.

Which in fairness, he has delivered on. As he smashed home past Edouard Mendy on Thursday night, Ronaldo’s goal had yet again saved United from another defeat.

A few games prior to that, a CR7 speciality hat-trick spared United’s blushes in a 3-2 home victory over Norwich.

And it’s a trend that continues way back to August when he re-joined the club.

Check out the video below, which shows Ronaldo’s goals from the 2021/2022 season for United – and people talk about him being a flop…

This guy is 37-years-old and he is still doing the business against elite Premier League and European defenders, not to mention dragging a freakishly poor United team on his back through his goal return.

With Ronaldo now second only to Mohamed Salah in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, the question everyone ought to be asking is where would the Red Devils be if they hadn’t of re-signed their star man.

Given their second highest goalscorer Bruno Fernandes isn’t even in double figures for the season (in all competitions!) you can safely presume, much further down the table.

Fans have been voicing their support for Portuguese icon in response to the video, the best of which we’ve added below…
