Football fans can’t believe that the Premier League Player of the Year candidates don’t include Cristiano Ronaldo, Virgil van Dijk or Sadio Mane, but James Ward-Prowse has been included.

With the season just over a week from being over, thoughts are turning to who will end up with the end of season awards, although Mohamed Salah has already captured the Football Writer’s award.

The Egyptian and Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne are the two favourites for the PFA’s award, with Van Dijk actually fifth when it comes to the odds.

However, the Liverpool centre back and Mane have missed out on the list when it comes to the Premier League’s own version of the award, with Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold the only two Liverpool players nominated.

The Reds are joined by Joao Cancelo and De Bruyne from City, Son Heung-min from Tottenham Hotspur, Bukayo Saka from Arsenal, Jarrod Bowen from West Ham and perhaps most surprisingly Southampton’s Ward-Prowse.
