Darwin Nunez has sent a message to fellow Uruguayan and former Liverpool star Luis Suarez following his move to Merseyside.

After posting an image on social media that was tagged “Forever Uruguayan”, Liverpool’s new frontman received the following response from Suarez: “I was the first one too! But I hope you come first in GOALS. Hug!!”

Nunez went on to add during his exchange with Suarez: “I am proud to follow in your footsteps. I hope I can perform like you did in Liverpool”

Suarez, who is out of contract following his stint at Atletico Madrid, has spoken of his past urges to bring Nunez to the Camp Nou: ““I recommended Darwin to Barcelona when he was at Almeria. I have 15 years of international experience. I know a thing or two about forwards.”

It seems like Darwin Nunez has the full support of Luis Suarez as he looks to become the latest Uruguayan striker to become a sensation at Liverpool.

The Reds signed Suarez from Ajax during the January transfer window of 2011 and he went on to register 82 goals for the club through 133 appearances, while also claiming the prestigious PFA Player of the Year award.

The pressure will be on the former Benfica player to follow in Suarez’s footsteps as the futures’ of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are in serious doubt due to contractual disputes ahead of the new season.
