It’s another new dawn at Manchester United as Erik ten Hag begins his tenure as manager.

The Dutchman, 52, is United’s sixth boss of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, following in the footsteps of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

Ten Hag has a huge job on his hands to turn things around at Old Trafford after United finished sixth at the end of a dismal campaign with the Premier League giants.

A group of players have already left United this summer including Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic.

Work is going on behind the scenes to bring in Ten Hag’s top targets, including Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia, but neither deal has been finalised as things stand.

United’s Premier League rivals have all strengthened their squads so far this summer and there’s a danger that the Red Devils will fall further behind unless a flurry of players are signed before the start of the new season.

In the meantime, Ten Hag and his backroom staff – including former England manager Steve McClaren – have begun work on improving the club’s current group of players.

United fans are encouraged after footage emerged of Ten Hag giving clear instructions to the players, telling them to play high-tempo football.

It’s essential for every United manager that they pay close attention to the club’s talented starlets.

Man Utd boast a proud record of naming one academy graduate in every match-day squad since 1938 and Ten Hag and his coaching staff will be responsible for bringing through the next generation at Old Trafford.

Which young players could feature for Man Utd in pre-season?

The likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Shola Shoretire, Charlie Savage and Zidane Iqbal are likely to feature for United in pre-season.

Ten Hag takes on Liverpool in his first pre-season friendly on July 12 before games against Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid.

United then begin their 2022-23 Premier League campaign against Brighton on August 7.
