Peter Drury’s Commentary After Lionel Messi Masterclass In Finalissima Is A Work Of Art

Peter Drury proved he’s still the best commentator in the business during Argentina vs Italy – and his praise of Lionel Messi is pure poetry.
Argentina won Finalissima 3-0, a game that featured the Copa America champions against the Euro 2020 champions.
Messi lit up Wembley Stadium and assisted on his way to being awarded Man of the Match. Drury provided analysis for the competition and wonderfully summed up the skills of the Paris Saint-Germain great.
“It will come as little surprise to everyone who enjoyed this football contest, that the Man of that Match should be called Lionel Messi,” Drury remarked as Messi got his medal and a wave of applause from colleagues and adversaries alike.

“His was a vintage display. In a team context, an individual who floated above it all. Very often without the ball, but especially with it. Goodness me, he must have a well upholstered mantlepiece.”
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner would also have the honour of lifting the trophy as captain.
As he did so, Drury explained: “Messi will get his hands on this most exclusive prizes. There’s only one of him.
“Cherish him, relish him while you’ve got him. Another Messi moment.”

Pure craftsmanship from a master of his trade. While we have him, cherish and enjoy him.
Messi has had a rough debut season at PSG, but he’s certainly still got it.
Argentina’s victory extends their undefeated streak to 33 games, and they did it in style.
Messi set up their first goal 28 minutes in, turning Giovanni Di Lorenzo and laying it off to Lautaro Martinez.
After getting away from Giorgio Chiellini, the Inter Milan attacker tapped home.
Angel Di Maria increased Lionel Scaloni’s advantage just before halftime after Martinez provided the assist.

Di Maria had additional chances in the second half but was stopped by Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is poised to join Juventus as a free agent in the coming weeks.
In addition, the Italian goalie saved Leonardo Bonucci’s backpass from going tragically wrong.
In extra time, Paulo Dybala added a third goal to seal the win.
