PSG Rejected Nine-Figure Bid From Real Madrid For Mbappe, Al Khelaifi Claims He’s Not Staying For Money
Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has revealed he turned down a staggering nine-figure sum from Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappe and claims the superstar forward isn’t influenced by money.
Mbappe rejected the chance to join the Spanish giants, penning a new and extremely-lucrative deal at PSG.
Real had hoped to sign the French international on a free transfer, with the player’s previous contract due to expire.
The La Liga champions also pursued Mbappe last summer and even tabled an astronomical bid of €180,000,000.
That’s according to Al-Khelaifi. who claims he snubbed Real’s advances for Mbappe as he knew the World Cup winner wanted to stay in Paris.
He also stated that the 23-year-old and his family weren’t influenced by money.
Speaking to Spanish outlet MARCA, he said: “I turned down 180 million [euros] last summer from Real Madrid because I knew Kylian wanted to stay at PSG.
“I know him very well, I know what he and his family want, and they aren’t influenced by money.”
Al-Khelaifi added: “He has chosen to play here for his city, his club and his country, and for the sporting project. He only thinks about playing and winning.
“What we do, we do because we know we can. It is not our style to talk about other leagues, clubs or federations.
“We don’t give lessons and we are not going to allow anyone to give us lessons. It’s the same thing every year. We are going to continue building our project.”
Mbappe, who scored 39 goals in 46 games across all competitions last season, has renewed with PSG until 2025.
His decision to prolong his PSG career angered both Florentino Perez and La Liga president Javier Tebas.
Perez said Mbappe is a man who ‘changed his dream’ while Tebas branded the PSG talent’s new deal an ‘insult to football’.
