Barcelona ‘can’t register Andreas Christensen & Franck Kessie’ due to financial issues despite annoucing them

Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen were both signed by Barcelona earlier this week.

The two came to the club as free agents from Chelsea and AC Milan, respectively.

Great work on the part of Barcelona. Without having to spend any money, they have access to two really great players.

However, there’s a major problem.

With the departure of multiple players this summer, including Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho, Dani Alves, and Adama Traore, Barcelona has already drastically cut their payroll.

But they are still well over La Liga’s wage cap, meaning they cannot register Kessie and Christensen in their squad, according to Cope.

If they wish to register their new additions, they will have to unload even more players.

But Barca is finding that to be challenging.

Martin Braithwaite is one player that they are rumoured to want to get rid of.

According to Sport, Xavi does not have a place for the Dane in his squad. However, Braithwaite is determined to stay in Catalonia as he believes playing for Barca is a great opportunity.

The issue of deferred payments is also making it difficult to offload players.

According to the Telegraph, Barca owe Frenkie de Jong £17m in deferred wages, an issue which is holding up his £55m move to Manchester United.

They also owe other members of their squad millions of pounds in deferred wages. According to journalist Gerard Romero, per the Daily Star, Gerard Pique is owed a mammoth £42.5m in wages.

They are having trouble raising the money necessary to recruit Robert Lewandowski, who wants out of Bayern Munich and is rumored to want to join Barcelona this summer.

Over the last year, Barca has done everything within their power to raise money. Even fans may pay to play at Camp Nou.

But they are still in a real mess. According to ESPN, their debt stands at nearly €800m, with more than €310m due in the next 12 months.

Barca’s financial issues have been well-documented recently, and they remain a major issue.
