Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly ‘furious’ with Erik ten Hag after the Manchester United manager publicly criticised him for leaving Sunday’s friendly against Rayo Vallecano early.
Ronaldo was spotted leaving Old Trafford before the final whistle last weekend.
The Portuguese superstar, appearing for United for the first time this summer, played the first 45 minutes before being substituted for Amad Diallo.
At one point during the first half, Ronaldo and Ten Hag were seen having a conversation on the touchline.
Some felt then that the relationship between the two probably wasn’t great.
Ten Hag insists that he’s been planning for the 2022-23 with Ronaldo, even though the 37-year-old forward wants to leave Old Trafford for a club competing in the Champions League.
So far, though, no club has produced an offer that will tempt United to sell their most marketable asset.
However, it may soon be in the best interests of all parties if Ronaldo is allowed to leave the club.
Ten Hag has reportedly angered United’s legendary No. 7 by calling his decision to leave Old Trafford early on Saturday “unacceptable”.
Diogo Dalot was also seen leaving the game before the final whistle alongside his compatriot.
“We are a team and that means you stay until the end,” Ten Hag told Viaplay, per BBC Sport.
“This is unacceptable, for all those involved.”
The report claimed that Ronaldo is now ‘more determined than ever’ to find a new club.
The report also said that Ten Hag’s comments could be the ‘final straw’ for Ronaldo, who missed Man Utd’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.
Curiously, the article on the Daily Star has since been taken down. It’s currently unclear why.
Meanwhile, it’s been reported that Ronaldo won’t be in the starting line-up for United’s opening match of the new Premier League season against Brighton this weekend.
Ten Hag is set to opt for Anthony Martial upfront, flanked by Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.
Ronaldo was expected to be on the bench, although today’s developments mean that’s no longer certain.
