Alexis Sanchez had rather mixed fortunes across his spells at Arsenal and Manchester United.

At Emirates Stadium, the Chilean sensation made an indelible impact on Premier League football, lighting up the division with his indefatigable playing style punctuated by high-intensity pressing and a superglue touch.

But when he completed that most infamous of moves to Old Trafford, the fire in Sanchez‘s boots seemed to have been extinguished as he cut the figure of a broken football player.

How is Sanchez remembered at Arsenal and Man Utd?

Sanchez would later go onto reveal that things just didn’t feel right at United from day one, but the contrast was nevertheless stark and ultimately leaves his legacy with the Red Devils in a complicated place.

No right-thinking United fan could ever accuse Sanchez of not putting in the hard yards, but by the same token, he must ultimately go down as one of the club’s worst ever signings.

Now that the years have passed and the dust has settled, both sets of supporters can look at things a bit less emotionally and weigh up how he’s remembered in London and Manchester.

It’s a point of particular relevance given that United and Arsenal are set to square off on Sunday afternoon in a clash that could well decide the fate of the Premier League title race.

And ahead of the big kick-off at the Emirates, there’s good reason to believe that Sanchez may be feeling a little more supportive of the Gunners than the team that subsequently snapped him up.

What did Sanchez write about Arsenal on Instagram?

Why? Well, that’s because Sanchez could be seen leaving an adorable comment on one of Arsenal’s Instagram posts previewing the massive showdown in north London.

The Premier League leaders posted a video of Sanchez scoring an absolute thunderbolt against United during their 3-0 win in October 2015, prompting the man himself to drop a reply that currently boasts no less than 46,000 replies.

The 34-year-old emotionally wrote: “You remembered me 😅. I will never forget you too. You will always be in my heart, you were my first family in England, and everyone took good care of me especially the fans! all the best gunners!!”

Sanchez then re-posted the video onto his Instagram story with the same message once again, before duly sharing the clip for a second time on his actual feed.

By contrast, there wasn’t a pre-match show of love for his time at United on display, though it is worth noting that the Red Devils didn’t upload a video of him that he could have jumped upon.

Either way, though, both the way that Sanchez spoke about his time at Arsenal and how his two stints in England generally panned out, it’s certainly not outrageous or unfair to assert that it’s the Gunners who the Marseille star holds dearest.

So if Mikel Arteta‘s men do indeed pull further and further away atop the Premier League table, maybe Alexis will be secretly smiling to himself as it all unfolds.
