Manchester United are confident of tying Marcus Rashford down to a new contract, according to reports.

The Englishman has been in prolific form this season, scoring in every one of his last seven matches.

He sent Old Trafford into elation on Saturday, poking the ball past Ederson to score the winner in the Manchester derby, and moreover take them to within two points of their bitter rivals.

Erik ten Hag looks to have found some rhythm in the Premier League, winning his last nine games on the bounce, and becoming the only manager to remain in all four of England’s domestic competitions.

The Red Devils travel to Crystal Palace next, before facing league-leaders Arsenal on Sunday, in wh at promises to be a cracker.

And Rashford looks set to play a key role, with their star man now looking even more likely to remain at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.

Rashford set to extend contract

The Manchester Evening News claim that the 25-year-old is expected to receive an increase in salary from his reported £200,000 weekly salary.

However, Ten Hag has made it clear he will not break the £300,000 barrier, ensuring that there is a better balance within the club’s new wage system.

David de Gea was forced to take a wage cut of 25 per cent in order to get below the threshold, as a result of United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League last season. Meanwhile, Casemiro is thought to earn the highest amount possible.

David de Gea has explained his Manchester United journey since he moved to the club from Atletico Madrid in 2011

United triggered the option to extend Rashford’s deal to 2024, in order to keep him at the club. However, they are now keen to add to this, with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain thought to be sniffing around.

Whilst no deal is confirmed yet, sources say the club are comfortable with Rashford’s situation and that both parties want a new contract.

Rashford’s brother and representative, Dwaine Maynard, is said to have met with the board recently, with talks having been described as open and constructive.

Maynard met with PSG officials in August last year, and the club’s chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirmed that they were monitoring Rashford’s situation last month.
