Barcelona have revealed their brand new home kit for the upcoming 2021/22 season, but some fans are unimpressed with the club’s decision to release some ‘eye-catching’ half-and-half shorts.
In an official presentation held at the Camp Nou on Tuesday evening, the La Liga side gave their supporters an exclusive look at their most recent kit release worn by some of the club’s star players.
The shirt, inspired by Barca’s famous crest and Blaugrana colours, uses 100% recycled polyester obtained from used bottles to create a very fine thread.
According to the club’s website, this material not only boosts sporting performance but also has a far lesser carbon footprint.
On the front of the jersey, at chest height, the St George Cross features alongside the Senyera [a striped Catalan flag] – two elements that define the club’s overall identity.
Meanwhile the traditional vertical stripes also feature, albeit ‘somewhat stylised’ to give them a more modern look.
In terms of the reception Barcelona’s new home kit has received online, it seems the majority of fans are reasonably happy with the shirt design but are less than pleased with the shorts, as seen on Gerard Pique and Antoine Griezmann here.
They feature a halved Blaugrana design while the socks come in the same colours with horizontal stripes.
Here is just some of the reaction from social media after the shirt was revealed in a presentation.
The men’s version of Barcelona’s jerseys in 2021/22 will feature main partner Rakuten, while the women’s version displays the brand Stanley – the main partner of their women’s team.
It will go on sale at 9.00am CEST on June 16 exclusively via the club’s e-commerce outlets.
