Cristiano Ronaldo missed an absolute sitter to put against Hungary in the nation’s opening Euro 2020 group game on Tuesday evening.
Portugal’s captain and all-time record goalscorer was presented with a golden opportunity just before half-time when Bruno Fernandes delivered an outrageous cross to pick him out.
Ronaldo was just six yards out and yet his contact with the side-foot was not clean as the ball blazed over Peter Guilasci’s crossbar.
It was a huge chance for the 36-year-old, who had his head in his hands in disbelief over his miss.
Earlier on in the first half in Budapest, Ronaldo was massively frustrated at Liverpool forward Diogo Jota for electing to go alone and shoot when the Juventus forward was free on the left and had a clear route to goal.
Ronaldo was absolutely fuming and threw a strop aimed at his teammate.
That was all forgotten about in the second half though, as the former Real Madrid man did then get on the scoresheet twice late on, taking his Portugal tally to 106 in 175 games and becoming the European Championship all-time top scorer.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was not best pleased prior to the game when he moved two bottles of Coca-Cola that were on the side for his press conference.
He then proceeded to lift a bottle of water in the air and uttered, ‘agua,’ which is Portuguese for ‘water.’
Ronaldo is known for his uber strict healthy lifestyle and has previously admitted to being ‘pissed’ by his son Cristiano Jr drinking fizzy.
