Alejandro Garnacho pleasantly astonishes young Man Utd fans with a new shirt after they mistakenly purchased the wrong number

Alejandro Garnacho pleasantly surprised two young Manchester United fans who had purchased the wrong shirt.

On Friday, Garnacho’s brother, Roberto, unveiled that the winger would be wearing the No. 17 shirt for the remainder of the 2023/24 season. Roberto shared photos of both of them wearing ‘Garnacho 17’ jerseys on social media, captioning it “AG17,” essentially confirming the Argentine’s new jersey number.

Garnacho had been wearing the No. 49 shirt since his senior debut in United’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea last year. There were speculations that the 19-year-old might take the No. 7 shirt, a jersey previously worn by his idol Cristiano Ronaldo. However, the honor of the No. 7 shirt went to the new £55 million signing, Mason Mount.

In the meantime, some eager fans had already purchased both Garnacho’s current No. 49 shirt and the No. 7 shirt in anticipation. Little did they know that he would be assigned an entirely different number. Upon hearing about this mix-up, Garnacho decided to purchase his new No. 17 shirt and personally deliver it to those fans.

In a heartwarming gesture, Garnacho received friendship bracelets for himself and his family, along with a homemade card.

There had been strong expectations that United’s high-profile signing, Rasmus Hojlund, would inherit the No. 17 shirt following the departure of Fred, who transferred to Turkish club Fenerbahce.

However, it now appears that Hojlund might be allocated the No. 11 shirt, which was previously worn by Mason Greenwood. Greenwood left United in August, embarking on a season-long loan to Getafe, following a six-month investigation into his conduct.
