Antonio Cassano criticized Jose Mourinho’s coaching skills, amid rumors of the Roma boss returning to Santiago Bernabeu.
According to Cassano, if the club wants a real coach, Mourinho would not be their choice, as he is merely a showman.
The current Los Blancos coach, Carlo Ancelotti, is contracted until the end of the 2023-24 season, which coincides with the expiration of Mourinho’s deal with Roma.
Antonio Cassano’s future is uncertain, as he is rumored to be linked with several teams, including the Brazilian national team.
As a result, Mourinho has been suggested as a potential replacement, with the possibility of promoting current Real Under-18 coach Alvaro Arbeloa to his assistant if he returns to Los Blancos.
Cassano, however, remains against the idea of the Portuguese coach starting a second stint in charge, tellingBoboTV: ‘He can return to Real Madrid if Ancelotti does not continue, but if Los Blancos want a coach, they will not call Mourinho for their new project.
‘Mou doesn’t give a sh*t about football. He doesn’t like to work, he doesn’t know how to communicate or speak, let’s not be fooled by his story.’
‘I don’t know how he achieves those results, because it’s just cinema. He was a great coach, but right now he can train Real Madrid, as he can also train San Martines.’
During his three-year tenure at the Bernabeu from 2010 to 2013, Mourinho only managed to win three titles while enduring the dominance of Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona led by Lionel Messi.
However, since his arrival at Roma in 2021, he has guided the team to victory in the Europa Conference League, making him the first coach ever to win a major European competition with four different clubs.
This is not the first instance where Antonio Cassano has criticized Mourinho’s coaching abilities.
He had previously attacked the Portuguese manager’s tactics after Roma’s exit from the Coppa Italia by Cremonese in February.
Cassano later praised Mourinho’s communication skills, despite earlier claiming that the coach “doesn’t know how to communicate or speak” in April.
‘Mourinho has never been a great coach, he just knew how to play the media and was a great communicator,’ Cassano told Christian Vieiri’s BoboTV podcast.
He is good at dealing with strong players, not ones who aren’t very good. It’s too easy to just be friendly with great players.’
He added: ‘It is just a disaster upon a disaster at Roma, he got them to spend money on Nemanja Matic and Rui Patricio, they were his decisions.
‘The other day, that performance made me want to vomit. He doesn’t know how to set out a team. Even with your second-string squad, you need to beat Cremonese.’
Cassano was signed by Real from Roma in January 2006, but was loaned out to Sampdoria just a year later before leaving for the Italian club permanently in 2008.
