Arsenal fans faced heavy criticism for their ’embarrassing’ Tottenham chant during the North London derby

Rival fans have criticized Arsenal supporters for their ’embarrassing’ chant ahead of the North London derby.

The match ended in a heated 2-2 draw at the Emirates on Sunday, marking Ange Postecoglou’s first-ever game against Arsenal.

Bukayo Saka’s shot, which took a significant deflection off Cristian Romero, opened the scoring for Mikel Arteta’s side, while Son Heung-min equalized for Spurs with a well-taken finish.

Saka then converted his penalty shortly after the restart and celebrated with James Maddison’s ‘darts’ celebration. However, Maddison swiftly retaliated, setting up Son for his second of the day after Jorginho was dispossessed.

As expected, there was plenty of banter between supporters, and a video of Arsenal fans singing ‘sit down, if you hate Tottenham’ has circulated on social media.

Rival fans were quick to criticise the chant, labelling it “embarrassing” and cringey”. While others likened it to primary school behaviour.

Replying to the video on Twitter, one user wrote: “What school is this?”

“The Emirates is just a magician and triangle sandwiches away from being a kids birthday party,” another joked.

“Thought they were all going to hold a parachute together,” a third added.

A fourth exclaimed: “It’s just so forced all the time,” while another questioned: “Was this before or after arts and crafts?”

“Song time at the nursery”, one more chimed in.

“I was doing that when I was like 5 embarrassing club,” another fan wrote.

The draw means both Arsenal and Tottenham are level on 14 points in the Premier League table, four points adrift of first-placed Manchester City, with Liverpool and Brighton making up the gap in between.
