Barcelona have announced that midfielder Gavi has suffered a ‘complete tear’ of his ACL as well as a meniscus injury while on international duty.
The 19-year-old midfielder was left “broken” and “shattered” on Sunday evening after he landed awkwardly on his knee during Spain’s 3-1 victory over Georgia in their final Euro 2024 qualifier.
A statement from Barcelona read: “Test carried out on Monday morning on the first team player Gavi have shown that he has a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus.
“The player will have surgery in the coming days after which a new medical update will be released.
“Gavi was injured on international duty for Spain in the final game of the team’s European Championship qualifying group against Georgia. The Barça midfielder was forced off after just 26 minutes of the encounter.”
🇪🇸 Due to ACL plus meniscus injury, the expectation for Gavi is to be out at least for 7 months but it could be up to 8/9 total months.
