Luke Shaw, the left-back for Manchester United, has reportedly agreed to a new four-year contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2027.
Shaw has had a stellar season, appearing in 35 matches and providing six assists in all competitions.
He was also part of the squad that secured a Carabao Cup triumph over Newcastle with a 2-0 victory.
The 27-year-old will be aiming to win additional trophies, with a Europa League quarter-final match against Sevilla and an FA Cup semi-final against Brighton approaching. Shaw has established himself as a key player under the guidance of manager Erik ten Hag and has even filled in as a center-back in the absence of Lisandro Martinez.
Shaw signs new contract
According to a report from The Athletic, Luke Shaw has committed to Manchester United for another four years.
The Red Devils had already exercised their option to extend Shaw’s contract by a year in December but were keen to secure his services for the long-term. Shaw’s “growing maturity and presence around the squad” are believed to have caught the eye of manager Erik ten Hag.
As a result, the Dutchman’s first signing for United, Tyrell Malacia, has been limited to just 15 Premier League appearances this season.
Shaw joined the club from Southampton in 2014, and the new deal will take him beyond a decade at Old Trafford.
Speaking about the Englishman in January, Ten Hag toldSky Sports: “He’s so honest. After the second game, I didn’t play him. He said, ‘I fully understand, my performance is not right’.
“But from the first day of training in pre-season, he was working really hard and you can see when he is in the right approach he’s a top player.
“He’s not only a team player, he’s a leader. He showed a lot of leader capacity. He’s the example in this moment and his skills, with his physical power, he brings a lot to the team.
“Now also in his mentality, he’s an example of how to win big games.”
David De Gea and Marcus Rashford are thought to be next on the list, with both players out of contract next year.
