Marcus Rashford is on the verge of committing his long-term future to Manchester United, as he has reportedly reached an agreement in principle to sign a new five-year contract at Old Trafford.
The negotiations between Rashford, 25, and the club have been ongoing for several months, as his current contract is set to expire next summer.
Manager Erik ten Hag is eager to retain the services of the England international, who had a stellar season, scoring 30 goals in 56 appearances across all competitions for Manchester United.
According to The Athletic, Rashford has agreed to a new deal that will extend until 2028, with the final stages of negotiation currently taking place between the club and his representative, Dwaine Maynard.
Rashford set to turn down ‘lucrative’ offers
There have been strong links between Paris Saint-Germain and Marcus Rashford, with the French club potentially eyeing him as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who may depart this summer.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Rashford has received lucrative contract offers from foreign clubs as well as another Premier League team.
However, despite these tempting offers, the forward is expected to reject them and choose to stay at Old Trafford, reaffirming his commitment to Manchester United.
“Rashford received more lucrative proposals from teams in England and Europe but turned them down to stay at United, where he has always dreamed of winning major honours,” wrote Ornstein.
Marcus Rashford’s journey with Manchester United began at the age of seven, and he made his senior debut for the club in 2016, scoring two goals against Midtjylland in a Europa League match.
Since then, he has amassed an impressive record of 123 goals in 359 senior appearances for the Red Devils.
Rashford has also celebrated success with his boyhood club, winning the Europa League, FA Cup, and League Cup twice.
Rashford’s decision to remain at Manchester United provides a significant boost for manager Erik ten Hag as he prepares for the upcoming season.
The club has already secured the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea in a £55 million move, and they are also close to finalizing a deal for goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
Manchester United is set to embark on their pre-season tour in the United States this week, with their next warm-up match scheduled against French side Lyon on Wednesday.
The team’s preparations for the upcoming season are well underway.
