The fact that a commentator appeared to call Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano ‘Upamaguire’ during the Champions League clash against Manchester City has left fans in disbelief.
On Wednesday night, Pep Guardiola’s men arrived at the Allianz Arena with a 3-0 lead, and Bayern knew they needed a miracle to overturn it.
During a cagey first half, the referee harshly adjudged that Upamecano handled Ilkay Gundogan’s shot, giving City a big chance to put the tie to bed.
However, Erling Haaland failed to convert the spot kick as he shot the ball over the crossbar.
In the second half, Kevin De Bruyne broke the deadlock for City by finding Haaland with an inch-perfect pass.
Haaland sat Upamecano down before lashing the ball into the back of Yann Sommer’s net to score the goal for his team.
Despite scoring from the penalty spot later, Bayern was knocked out of the Champions League with an aggregate score of 4-1.
Fans noticed during the match that an Arabic commentator seemed to refer to Upamecano as ‘Upamaguire’, a reference to Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, whose performances have been scrutinized.

Fans were quick to react on social media.
One said: “No way the commentator called Upamecano “ Upamaguire”.
Another tweeted: “Arabian commentary called him UpaMaguire.”
A third fan added: “Upamecano more like Upamaguire.”
Someone else wrote: “Bruh really said Upamaguire.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “Nahhhh no way did the guy actually call Upamecano Upamaguire hahahaha.”
To be honest, Upamecano had a difficult night at the Etihad during the first leg, and he was not at his best again in the second leg at the Allianz Arena.
City will face holders Real Madrid in the semi-final as they pursue their first-ever triumph in the Champions League.
Whether City can go all the way and be crowned the kings of Europe remains to be seen, and only time will tell.
