Cristiano Ronaldo produces new celebration after goal in Luxembourg v Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal for Portugal against Luxembourg and marked the occasion with a new celebration.

Despite being a substitute in the World Cup quarter-final against Morocco in December, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been consistently scoring for his country.

In the 4-0 victory over Lichtenstein, Ronaldo scored two goals, and he repeated the feat in the match on Sunday. When he scored the opening goal just nine minutes into the game, the 38-year-old showcased a different celebration than his usual ‘SIUU’, which has gone viral as a meme.

In addition to his usual ‘SIUU’ celebration, Cristiano Ronaldo also made a finger-locking gesture after scoring a goal, which was interpreted as a “self-deprecating” celebration, as per former teammate Antony.

So when he found the net at the Luxembourg Stadium, Ronaldo decided to combine the two in a super celebration – producing the trademark jump and seamlessly transitioning into the pose.

He’s merged celebrations before, having paired the SIUU with Paulo Dybala’s signature mask gesture during their time together at Juventus.

Joao Felix and Bernardo Silva were also on target in a first-half Portugal rout.

Ronaldo debuted his second signature celebration after firing in his 700th club goal for United against Everton at Goodison Park.

It has even made its way onto FIFA 23, with gamers able to troll their opponents after finding the net with Real Madrid’s record goalscorer.

At the time of writing, Ronaldo, Portugal’s record scorer, has 122 goals in 197 appearances for his country.
