In light of recent claims of a ‘fix’, David Beckham has addressed the situation after Lionel Messi played a pivotal role in leading Inter Miami to yet another thrilling victory.
During Wednesday night’s match against Cincinnati in the US Open Cup, Inter Miami faced a challenging situation as they trailed 2-0 due to goals from Luciano Acosta and Brandon Vazquez.
However, Messi played a significant role in the comeback, contributing to his team’s recovery as Leonardo Campana scored two goals to bring the match to a draw.
In the additional time, Josef Martinez managed to put Inter Miami in the lead, only for Yuya Kubo to equalize at 3-3, leading the match to a penalty shootout.
Inter Miami ultimately secured a 5-4 victory in the shootout, securing their spot in the final.
Messi’s unbeaten streak since his MLS debut last month continued with this triumph.
In response to recent claims of matches being fixed for Messi to win, David Beckham has now addressed the situation.
Speaking after the Leagues Cup final a few days ago, the Englishman said: “Every time Leo [Messi] scores one of these goals, every time Busi [Sergio Busquets] makes one of these passes, every time Jordi [Alba] makes one of these runs, people say ‘Is it a fix?’

“It’s the biggest compliment that anyone can give these players because it is like a movie. You watch these players play and it’s emotional because everything about their play is beautiful. Everything about their mannerisms is beautiful and everything about them as individuals, off the pitch, is beautiful.”
After the match against Cincinnati, Beckham wrote on social media: “Another great night in pink. A great performance from the team to reach another final. Very proud.”

Inter Miami will now take on Houston Dynamo in the final of the US Open Cup, which will take place on September 27.
Before that, Messi is set to make his long-awaited MLS debut this weekend when Inter Miami take on New York Red Bulls on Saturday.
