David de Gea in talks to finally join new club four months after leaving Man Utd

David de Gea is in talks to finally end his four-month absence from football after leaving Manchester United, it has been reported.

The Spaniard’s 12-year spell at Manchester United ended in July after he was informed that his contract would not be renewed.

De Gea has been linked with moves to Real Madrid, Bayern Munich , and the Saudi Pro League since his Old Trafford departure.

A potential return to United to cover for Andre Onana’s expected African Cup of Nations involvement next year was also reported byThe Sun.

But surprisingly, the 33-year-old, one of the top goalkeepers in world football, is still without a club.

That could all be about to change, with Spanish outletEldes Marque claiming he is in talks over a return to La Liga with Real Betis.

The outlet reports that Betis, who former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini manages, would look to offer the goalkeeper a short-term deal.

Their current number one shot-stopper is another former City man, Claudio Bravo, who turned 40 in April.

Eldes Marque add that Betis are looking to sell reserve goalkeeper Rui Silva, who picked up an injury and is expected to be out until after the international break.

Los Verdiblancos currently sit in sixth place in La Liga, with five wins from their opening 12 games, and are top of their Europa League group.

De Gea previously played in the top division of Spanish football with Atletico Madrid before his move to United in the summer of 2021.

The goalkeeper has remained relatively quiet since his departure from Old Trafford in July, and hasn’t spoken publicly about his time at the club barring a farewell statement to supporters following his release.

He did return to Manchester last month to watch United’s women’s side take on Paris Saint-Germain in a Women’s Champions League qualifier, which ended 1-1.
