Fans claim Darwin Nunez scored the ‘most Nunez goal ever’ as he finds the net in Liverpool’s victory over Karlsruher

Fans have credited Darwin Nunez with scoring what they consider to be the quintessential Nunez-style goal during Liverpool’s friendly victory over Karlsruher on Wednesday.

Liverpool secured a 4-2 win against Karlsruher in a pre-season match, with Diogo Jota sealing the victory with a late brace in Germany.

Cody Gakpo also found the back of the net, along with Liverpool’s new No.9. In the third minute, the Uruguayan forward opened the scoring, prompting fans to humorously remark that he had scored the epitome of a Nunez-style goal.

In the play, Mohamed Salah passed the ball to Nunez, who made a run towards the goal but surprisingly chose not to shoot. Instead, he returned the ball to Salah, who then played it back to Nunez.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Nunez cleverly poked the ball into the net, resulting in a 1-0 lead for Liverpool.

Despite bagging a goal, fans mocked Nunez for not shooting first time while Liverpool supporters jumped to the player’s defence.

One Twitter user wrote: “Darwin Nunez scoring the most Darwin Nunez goal ever.”

A second tweeted: “You cannot convince me Darwin Nunez is a good footballer, what is bro doing.”

A third argued: “Everyone said the same about Vinicius first two seasons at Madrid as well. Give him time.”

A Liverpool fan defended Nunez, commenting: “I believe he scored a goal. Could be wrong but…”

A fifth backed the forward: “Did he end up scoring? He did? Then it doesn’t freaking matter.”

Nunez, who joined Liverpool in a transfer worth up to £85 million, scored 15 goals in all competitions last season.

After a period of settling in at the club, Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool fans alike will be hoping for a more prolific campaign from their star forward next season.

How will he fare in the 2023/24 term? Let us know what you think.
