Eddie Nketiah enjoyed a highly successful international youth career, amassing a remarkable 16 goals for England’s under-21 team.
However, despite this achievement, the 24-year-old finally made his senior international debut on Friday when he came off the bench to replace Ollie Watkins for the final 17 minutes of a friendly match.
Because Nketiah has yet to represent the Three Lions in a competitive fixture, he retains the option to switch his international allegiance to Ghana.
The Black Stars have openly expressed their interest in recruiting several players on the fringes of the England national team.
Ghana manager Chris Hughton has even acknowledged his eagerness to secure the international commitment of the Arsenal forward.
“Some players are very definite about what they want,” he said. “Some are not so sure and some want to see how things develop. I think that’s been the case with Eddie.
“We would never say never on him switching to Ghana. But it’s always down to what the player wants.”
And footage of Nketiah officiallyreceiving his England capwill do little to quell the anxieties of fans hoping the forward will commit his international future to the Three Lions.

A viral clip, that has received much criticism from fans, shows Levi Colwill being presented with his first England cap in front of the squad before a seemingly curmudgeon Nketiah is subsequently presented with a debut cap of his own.
Nketiah’s lack of enthusiasm in the clip has been remarked on by several fans across social media.
Nevertheless, upon receiving his first call-up last month, Nketiah stressed his joy at being among the England seniors for the first time.
“When I got the text, it was surreal,” Nketiah told theEngland media team. “I’m usually a calm guy, but I did lose a bit of composure for a second. It was an amazing moment.
“All my family were really emotional. It has been a long journey, and I’ve worked really hard to get to this point so it’s nice to receive that recognition.”
He continued: “I can’t remember what I exactly said. I don’t think I said much. I was just looking at my phone, just checking every detail to make sure it was correct.
“It was really nice. My parents were really emotional because they sacrificed a lot for me to get here. Seeing their happiness and the pride on their faces was special. It was a special moment to be able to share with them.”
