A compilation showcasing Mason Mount’s performance for Manchester United in their second pre-season friendly against Lyon has surfaced, and the fans have expressed their opinions.
The 24-year-old had become Erik ten Hag’s first signing of the summer when he joined United from his childhood club Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth £55 million earlier this month.
He had been given his debut in the match against Leeds last week, where he played 45 minutes during their 2-0 victory, but he had difficulty asserting himself in the game.
Mount received another 45-minute opportunity to showcase his skills against Lyon, and a compilation video capturing his performance has been released. You can watch his individual highlights at Murrayfield, Edinburgh below.
The England international displayed his wide range of passing, but failed to convert from close range and was unable to clear the wall with a free-kick.
As a result, fans are divided on the midfielder’s performance, with some calling it a “stinker”, and others praising his defensive effort.
“Mount’s dropped 2 stinkers. I’m glad Chelsea sold him for 60m”, wrote one fan.
“Ain’t no way I’m seeing multiple fail clips of Mason Mount again, back to back games? This is hilarious”, another added.
While a third exclaimed: “I knew he was bad. But this is different level. Ten Hag with his pants down at £70m”.
However, another section of supporters reckon he had a decent game, believing the compilations are attempting to force an agenda.
One clearly confused fan wrote: “Are u guys trying to banter or are u actually serious? The compilation had him tracking back, then him getting fouled?”
“This Mason Mount agenda is so forced lmao”, another added.
