Jamie Carragher’s selection for his best Chelsea XI has sparked controversy among supporters.
Despite the Blues’ substantial investment of over £1 billion in new signings following the arrival of co-owners Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly, there hasn’t been a notable improvement in the team’s performance.
Consecutive victories against Brighton and Fulham have alleviated some of the pressure on newly appointed manager Mauricio Pochettino. Notably, Mykhailo Mudryk scored his first goal for the club against Fulham.
However, former Liverpool defender Carragher believes that Chelsea is still some distance away from competing for the Premier League title. He contends that they need four more signings to challenge the likes of Manchester City.
“You rarely get your best 11 on the pitch, they have injuries but if you get their team on the pitch regularly I believe they are fighting for top four,” Carragher toldSky Sports.
“If you tell me that is their best team after spending £1bn, they still need four players to make them capable of catching Man City.
“Chelsea have spent over a billion pound and they still feel like half a team away from competing for the Premier League title”

“Centre forward (Nicolas Jackson) isn’t good enough, goalkeeper (Robert Sanchez) isn’t good enough, centre-back and another midfielder. To think Chelsea have spent £1billion and still feel half a team away from competing for the Premier League is flabbergasting.”
Selecting Chelsea’s best XI, Carragher picked: Robert Sanchez, Reece James, Thiago Silva, Wesley Fofana, Ben Chilwell, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk, Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson.
Reacting to Carragher’s picks, one fan tweeted: “Where do I even start?”
“Centre back isn’t enough? Sanchez is good,” another added.
A third asked: “How is Cucurella not at LB?”, while a fourth suggested: “Palmer for Sterling as well.”
“Carragher on drugs as per usual,” a fifth joked.
However, others agreed with the former England international, with one fan admitting: “The team itself is pretty spot on.”
Another chimed in: “This team can not compete with Man Citys 2nd lineup.”
