Jamie Carragher slams Premier League decision to dock Everton points, claims ‘other clubs’ are getting away with it

Jamie Carragher has slammed the Premier League for their decision to dock Everton 10 points, believing that other sides are getting away with it.

The Toffees have been handed a hefty 10-point deduction over Financial Fair Play violations, with the Premier League confirming the news in a statement.

Everton soon released their own statement in response, stating that they are ‘shocked and disappointed’ by the ruling.

Sean Dyche’s side currently sit 14th place in the top-flight table, having picked up 14 points from 12 games.

A deduction would make them the only the second team, after Portsmouth, to be handed a points punishment in Premier League history and drop deep into the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool defender-turned-pundit has had his say on the decision, calling the punishment “excessive and not right”.

Hetweeted: “The 10 point deduction for Everton is excessive & not right, considering they have been working with the PL about this for the last couple of years.

“Would it have been better to be evasive & try & drag it out like other clubs?

“No doubt relegated clubs will have put big pressure on the PL to deal with Everton, but when you consider 6 clubs tried to leave the PL & there was no sanction at all it doesn’t feel right.

“Until other clubs are sanctioned Everton will feel they are being used to show there is no need for an independent regulator, and they are right.”

Table-topping Manchester City are also at risk of suffering a similar fate after being accused of more than 100 separate FFP breaches between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons.

Pep Guardiola’s side are also at risk of having their titles striped, although many believe that they will get off scot-free.
