Joshua Kimmich has subtly indicated his preference for a Premier League transfer amid speculation linking him to Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool.
As Kimmich’s current contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the next season, the midfielder has become the focus of intense transfer rumors.
Having been with Bayern Munich since 2015 and holding a contract until 2025, several English clubs, including Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool, are monitoring his situation with interest.
But it appears Man United and Liverpool are behind the Blues in the pecking order to acquire the German international.
That’s judging by his previous comments on Pep Guardiola, who managed the player during his stint at Bayern.
Kimmich spoke about the meeting he had with the Spaniard and the ‘trust’ that was built from their interaction while revealing a moment he will never forget.
“I was 20-years-old playing in the second division. I was like, ‘Why do they want to get me when they can have every player in the world?’ So, it was a bit strange for me. But I knew I had this great opportunity,”said the 29-year-old.
“I sat down in a conference room at Bayern’s offices waiting to meet Pep Guardiola.”
Kimmich added: “All I knew about Pep was from what I had seen on TV. I was so nervous, but as he walked in, I felt it right away – that trust. And immediately I knew I wanted to play for Bayern.
“Pep spoke to me about my strengths and my weaknesses, and how he wanted to help me become a better player by learning a different style of play. ‘I want you on this team,’ he told me. That’s a moment I will never forget.”
Guardiola called upon his services throughout his entire managerial spell at Bayern as he plots a reunion at Man City.
The Blues look to be in the market for a new midfielder, with Kalvin Phillips set to move on from the Etihad.
Kimmich would add a wealth of experience and versatility to the Man City squad should he decide to link up with Guardiola.
