Jurgen Klopp issues an ‘uncomfortable’ directive to Liverpool fans in the matchday program for the Chelsea clash

Jurgen Klopp has issued Liverpool fans with an order ahead of his side’s huge Premier League clash with Chelsea.

Liverpool will welcome Chelsea to Anfield on Wednesday evening looking to strengthen their position at the top of the Premier League table.

Klopp’s side are currently two points ahead of Arsenal and five ahead of Manchester City, although Pep Guardiola’s side have a game in hand.

Liverpool’s 5-2 FA Cup win against Norwich on Sunday was overshadowed by Klopp’s announcement a few days earlier that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Liverpool supporters paid tribute to their manager of nine years throughout the match, creating an emotional atmosphere at Anfield.

Klopp has never been shy of expressing his appreciation of the club’s fans, but ahead of the Chelsea match he has told them to stop singing about him and focus on supporting the team.

In hisprogramme notes, Klopp wrote: “Finally, I would like to say thank you for the support I was given on Sunday but at the same time I have another request.

“Tonight we need a proper Anfield atmosphere. This is definitely an occasion to forget that the manager is leaving at the end of the season and to do everything that we can as a collective to make it as uncomfortable as we possibly can for a really strong opponent.

“If we can do this together, we will definitely create an opportunity to take another step forward.

“You’ll never walk alone, Jurgen.”

Last Friday Klopp made the surprise announcement that he will step down as manager at the end of the season.

“I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything,” he said.

“But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take. It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy.

“I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I would have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now.

“I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again. After the years we had together and after all the time we spent together and after all the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you and the least I owe you is the truth – and that is the truth.”
