Karim Benzema scores a humorous own goal shortly after scoring for Al Ittihad

Karim Benzema scored a comedic own-goal minutes after he had scored for Al Ittihad.

On Friday evening, Al Ittihad competed in a Saudi Professional League match against Al Taawoun.

In the 22nd minute, Benzema provided his team with the lead by netting a powerful header.

However, a mere four minutes after his goal, Benzema inadvertently scored in the opposing net

As a corner was swung into the Al Ittihad penalty area, the Frenchman diverted the ball into his own net past goalkeeper Marcelo Grohe.

Benzema joined Al Ittihad from Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid this summer in what was a shock move.

The current Ballon d’Or holder left Madrid after a glittering spell that resulted in five Champion League titles, four La Ligas, three Copas del Rey, four UEFA Super Cups and five FIFA Club World Cups.

In total, Benzema played 648 times for Madrid across all competitions, scoring 354 goals, and he will be remembered as one of Los Blancos’ greatest-ever strikers.

Benzema was among several prominent footballers who made the decision to leave European football for the Saudi Professional League this summer.

Al Ittihad secured the services of players like Jota, N’Golo Kante, and Fabinho in addition to Benzema.

Rivals Al Nassr made notable signings such as Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, and Aymeric Laporte. Meanwhile, Al Ettifaq, managed by Steven Gerrard, acquired the talents of Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, and Demarai Gray.

Other players like Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez, Neymar, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Ruben Neves also made the move to Saudi Arabia from Europe.
