Kylian Mbappe provides a candid response when questioned about missing Lionel Messi at PSG

Kylian Mbappe answered honestly when asked if missed being teammates with Lionel Messi.

The pair shared a dressing room for two seasons, winning back-to-back league titles but struggling in the Champions League.

However, Messi and Mbappe were on opposite sides in the World Cup final as Argentina beat France on penalties following a pulsating 3-3 draw.

Messi scored twice while Mbappe bagged a hat-trick at the Lusail Stadium. PSG didn’t properly acknowledge Messi’s triumph and there were suggestions of a rift between the two.

However, they struck up a strong understanding on the pitch, and with Messi now plying his trade with Inter Miami, Mbappe admits that he misses the creative genius that the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner brought to the table.

He toldAmazon Prime Sport: “Playing with Leo Messi is something I miss a lot. You always miss not playing with Leo Messi anymore! For an attacker like me, who likes to attack spaces, with him you have the certainty that you can get the ball.

“It was a luxury that almost only he can give you. Beyond that, playing with Messi was special.”

Messi has also spoken about his rapport with Mbappe in the past, telling Olga: “The truth is that I like him.”

Messi scored 32 times against PSG but never really looked happy in Paris and had a strained relationship with the club’s fans.

He left for David Beckham’s Inter in June and scored 11 goals in 14 games, winning the Leagues Cup.

Mbappe has had his own issues with PSG’s fans but after Messi following the expiration of his contract, he claimed the Argentine didn’t receive the respect he deserved.

“Personally I haven’t really understood why so many people were relieved that he was leaving,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We’re talking about Messi: He should be respected, but instead, he didn’t get the respect he deserved in France. It’s a pity, but that’s how it went. The club will have to do what they can to replace him.”

Although he was set to leave in the summer, Mbappe has scored 22 goals in 23 appearances this term.
