Liverpool have been warned they are unlikely to get Kylian Mbappe for cheap despite his mum supposedly being a fan of the Merseyside club.
Mbappe is currently out of contract at the end of the season, and as things stand can walk away from Paris Saint-Germain for free at the end of the season.
Given the 25-year-old is also able to sign a pre-contract deal this month with a club outside France, there has been plenty of speculation the Frenchman is set to join Real Madrid, while Liverpool have also been given an outside chance of securing the player’s signature.
Of course, while Mbappe could sign ‘free’ if he leaves PSG, it will be an incredibly expensive contract, with theTelegraphhaving claimed the France skipper expects a salary of €75million a year (£64.5million) after tax. That equates to £1.24million a week.
Given there is no transfer fee, there is also allegedly the expectation of a significant signing-on fee.
And Liverpool fans hoping they may have the edge in the pursuit of Mbappe due to his mum Fayza Lamari’s alleged allegiance to the Reds may be deterred by her latest comments.
Lamari, who has also served as her son’s agent, claimed she felt no guilt about taking so much money from PSG when renewing Mbappe’s contract in 2022.
”There is no guilt, no shame. If we could have taken 10 billion, we would have taken them because it’s the system that wants that,” Lamari said according to Le Parisien.
Mbappe’s representatives appear to be ruthless negotiators, unlikely to give Liverpool a bargain in terms of wage demands and bonuses, despite Lamari’s affiliation with the club.
In a conversation with theTelegraphin 2022, Mbappe admitted to having negotiations with Liverpool just before his switch from Monaco to PSG.
He explained: “I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her!
“It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”
